New Floors Before the Holidays: A Space Coast Timeline That Actually Works

Every fall, the same thought hits a lot of Brevard County homeowners: the family is coming for the holidays, and the floors are not where they should be. The good news is that a holiday deadline is very doable if you plan backward from the date and make a few decisions early.

Step one: decide what really needs to be done

You don't have to redo the entire house before Thanksgiving. Walk through the way a guest would: front door, living room, dining area, the hallway to the guest bath. Those are the floors people notice. A tired back bedroom can wait until January. Narrowing the scope is the single biggest thing that keeps a holiday project on schedule.

Step two: choose the right floor for each room

On the Space Coast, the room usually tells you the answer. Entries, kitchens and anywhere near the pool want something waterproof, which points to luxury vinyl plank or tile. Step three: get the measurements and the slab check out of the way

Most homes here sit on a concrete slab, and what that slab looks like under the old floor matters. High spots, low spots, old adhesive and moisture all affect how fast the install goes. Getting that done early means there are no surprises once the old floor comes up.

Step four: protect the schedule

• Leave a cushion. Aim to finish a week or two before guests arrive, not the night before.
• Clear small items, decor and breakables from the rooms before install day.

• Think about furniture placement now, so rugs and tables go back where you want them.
