Why engineered hardwood is the default choice on the Space Coast
Engineered hardwood is a real hardwood wear layer bonded to a plywood core, so it looks and feels exactly like solid wood underfoot - but it doesn't move the way solid wood does when humidity swings, which happens constantly in a Brevard County summer or during a stretch of hurricane season. Since most homes here are built slab-on-grade with no basement, engineered is what we recommend for the large majority of hardwood installs we do.
Brevard Flooring stocks engineered hardwood from Lauzon, Mirage, Mercier, Kahrs, Coswick, Shaw, and Armstrong, in finishes ranging from classic oak to wire-brushed and hand-scraped textures.

What engineered hardwood gets you
It's the combination most homeowners are actually after - real wood grain with a floor that's built for how this area is built.
- Glues or floats directly over a concrete slab - no extra plywood base needed
- Handles humidity swings without cupping, gapping, or buckling
- Available in wider planks (up to 9") than most solid wood options
- Factory-finished with a durable topcoat before it ever reaches your house
- If you're comparing it against a fully waterproof option for a laundry room or entry, take a look at luxury vinyl plank as well - we install both and can help you weigh them

Species, widths, and finishes
Most of what we install is European or American oak, though maple, walnut, hickory, and a handful of exotic species are available on request. Plank widths run from a traditional 3" up to wide 9" boards, and finishes range from clear matte to wire-brushed, hand-scraped, and darker, reactive-stained looks.

How we handle the installation
We start with a subfloor assessment - a moisture reading on your slab, a flatness check, and a look at any transitions to tile or carpet elsewhere in the house. From there we install floating, glue-down, or nail-down engineered hardwood depending on what the subfloor and the room call for. Every quote includes baseboard removal and reset, transition strips, and full removal of your old flooring.
If hardwood isn't the right fit for every room in your plan, we also install tile, carpet, and laminate, and would rather point you to the right material than force a fit - request a free estimate and we'll walk the whole house with you.

Engineered Hardwood - frequently asked questions
Most homes in The Space Coast are built on a concrete slab with no basement, and engineered hardwood is built to handle that - it can be glued or floated directly to concrete and won't react to humidity the way solid wood does. Solid hardwood needs a wood subfloor, which most homes here simply don't have on the ground floor.
It's water-resistant, not waterproof. It shrugs off everyday spills and humidity better than solid wood, but standing water from a leak or a storm should still be cleaned up quickly - if a room floods regularly, luxury vinyl plank is the safer call.
Thicker wear layers (3mm or more) can be lightly sanded, though that's not a service we perform ourselves - we focus on installation and small repairs. Thinner wear layers should just be screened and recoated, not sanded.
Over a concrete slab, we almost always recommend glue-down for a solid, quiet feel underfoot. Floating floors install faster and are easier to pull up for repairs, which we'll discuss with you based on the specific room and subfloor.
