Brevard Flooring has been fitting hardwood floors across Brevard County since 2005, from beachside condos near the Space Coast to family homes further inland. We stock and install solid hardwood, engineered hardwood, and parquet from mills like Lauzon, Mirage, Mercier, Bruce, Kahrs, Coswick, Shaw, and Armstrong.
Buying direct from those mills means you get manufacturer pricing instead of big-box markup. Our own installation crew handles the whole job - old floor removal, subfloor prep, leveling, and a clean final install - so nothing gets handed off to a subcontractor who's never seen your house.
Solid or engineered? In The Space Coast, the slab usually decides
Nearly every home we work on in The Space Coast is built slab-on-grade - there's no basement, and the subfloor is concrete, not plywood. That single fact narrows the decision more than most homeowners expect.
- Solid hardwood - 3/4" boards of solid wood, nailed to a wood subfloor. Works well over a plywood second story, but shouldn't be nailed directly to a concrete slab.
- Engineered hardwood - a real hardwood wear layer bonded to a stable plywood core. Glues or floats directly over concrete and holds up to Florida's humidity swings without cupping or gapping. It's what we recommend for most slab homes in Palm Bay and the surrounding Space Coast.
- Wide-plank boards (5"-7") - available in either construction, and popular in newer Brevard builds.
- If a room sees a lot of moisture or foot traffic - a laundry room, a rental unit, a slab entryway - it's also worth comparing luxury vinyl plank before you commit to wood.
Species and stain colors that hold up to Florida light
Oak - red and white - makes up most of what we install; it's tough, takes stain evenly, and is easy to source when you need a repair years down the road. Hickory is the hardest domestic option and holds up well in busy households. Maple gives a cleaner, lighter grain, while walnut and cherry bring a darker, more formal look to dining rooms and studies.
We bring physical sample boards to your home rather than asking you to pick a stain off a screen, because Florida's bright, direct sunlight changes how a color reads compared to a showroom under fluorescent lights.
Installation, moisture testing, and honest maintenance advice
Every hardwood install starts with a moisture test on the subfloor - a step we treat as non-negotiable given how much humidity moves through a Brevard County slab over a year, hurricane season included. From there we install nail-down, glue-down, or floating hardwood depending on what the subfloor calls for, remove and reset baseboards, and haul away your old flooring.
If you already have hardwood that's showing scuffs, pet scratches, or a few worn boards near an entry, our crew can repair and touch up those spots so they blend back in - we're not a refinishing outfit, but we can keep an existing floor looking presentable. Hardwood Flooring - frequently asked questions
Most whole-home installs run 2 to 4 days, depending on square footage and how much furniture has to move. Homes with a lot of transitions between rooms - common in Brevard County's split floor plans - can run a day longer.
Engineered hardwood handles a kitchen reasonably well since the plywood core resists the humidity swings typical of our summers, though we still steer most bathrooms toward tile flooring or luxury vinyl plank where water exposure is higher. Solid hardwood isn't something we recommend for either room.
A well-installed engineered floor typically lasts 25-40 years here, and solid hardwood can last well beyond that on the right subfloor. Both hold up better when the home's humidity stays reasonably controlled, which is why we always start with a moisture check rather than guessing.
We bring sample boards in your species and stain so we can match within a shade or two. Since we don't offer full refinishing, the closest match usually comes from sourcing the same or a very similar product rather than trying to blend old and new together.
